Timberline Announces Season Opening!: “Get ready skiers and riders… this Friday, October 1st will mark the opening of the ski and snowboard season at Timberline! Late spring storms and focused summer grooming and maintenance of the Palmer Snowfield have provided a great level of snow above 7,000 feet.

We’ll be operating our Magic Mile and Palmer Chairs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October (weather/conditions permitting). We’ll look to open more lifts as soon as the snow starts to fall and we can build a base on the lower mountain. And with the current La Nina forecast, all fingers are crossed that this will happen sooner rather than later!

All 2010-11 Timberline Full Winter Season Passes, including the Mt. Hood Fusion Pass, will be valid starting October 1st. You can purchase your Mt. Hood Fusion Pass at the mountain, or at Portland area REI stores on Saturdays & Sundays during the month of October. For more information, visit www.mthoodfusionpass.com.

Daily lift tickets will be available at reduced pricing until we have more lifts available to ride:

Adult (18-64) – $48
Teen (15-17) – $40
Junior (7-14) – $35
Senior (65-70) – $35

Please remember, the Palmer Snowfield is recommended for advanced intermediate and above skill level only, and downloading on the Magic Mile lift is required during the early season.

Wow! First skiing in the US for the 2010/11 winter reported at Fernie Alpine Resort

First Skiing in North America for 2010/11 Ski Season at Fernie Alpine Resort: “Today we loads of fresh snow overnight in the 5 Alpine Bowls at Fernie Alpine Resort! I had no ski gear with me so I borrowed some ski gear and we made our way up to top of the Timber Bowl and then headed up to White Pass. We then made some turns in Currie Bowl! From what I understand it is the 1st turns at any ski resort in North America! La Nina winters make for great skiing in our region. So dont miss out! Enjoy your turns! Thinking that you want to work for Vail Ski Patrol next season?  Those interested need to call Vail Ski Patrol at (970) 754-4610 and sign up for a ski test date.  Ski testing will take place on March 21, 24 and 26th from 8:30-11:30am and will meet at our Lower Patrol Room in Vail Village under the ticket office.  Ski testers will be evaluated on two or three runs and those who pass will be invited to attend the Patrol Hiring Academy on March 27-29th.

Diamond Peak Go Lil’ or Go Home Festival on March 20th:

“Kids ages 10 and under have a chance to catch big air off a little jump at the Diamond Peak Go Li’ or Go Home Festival! Kids jump off of a 3-ft. jump built at the bottom of Lodgepole.

Registration will be from 9:00-10:30 am and the contest will start at 11 am. The entry fee is $10 and everybody will receive a t-shirt and Certificate of Achievement! We will have face painting as well. An on-hand photographer will be there taking photos of the kids. Each kid will receive a picture of his or her jump. Diamond Pete the Penguin will make a special appearance! [...]“

Seth Wescott, Snowboard Cross Gold Medalist to Visit The Summit:

“Seth Wescott, the 2010 Olympic Snowboard-Cross Gold Medalist will visit The Summit at Snoqualmie on March 14th, 2010 as part of his National ‘Ride With Me’ SBX Tour. Wescott won his 2nd Olympic Gold Medal at Cypress Mountain, British Columbia and went into the race as the defending Olympic Snowboard Cross champion. Wescott is based out of Sugarloaf Mountain Resort, Maine. Sugarloaf is a sister resort of The Summit at Snoqualmie and is also a member of Boyne Resorts [...]“
