Th Guardian also has an article on using Munich, Germany, as a base from which to head off skiing in Europe – Going skiing? Try Munich. I did this in 2006 and it was an interesting trip. Start off heading to London post, and then flew to Munich. Instead of taking the train I drove down to Saalbach. Things that stick in my mind from the trip are the nightmare of picking up the car from Hertz at the airport, the awful drive from Munich to Saalbach (due to snow), Saalbach ski area was small (snowed all week), the hotel was fantastic, and the queue at Munich airport checkin for the flight back was horrendous. You can read full reports of the trip at: Saalbach day 2, Saalbach day 3, Saalbach day 4, Saalbach day 5, Saalbach day 6, Saalbach day 7, and Saalbach day 8.
