Emergency ski trip: Killington, Vermont, USA
Currently on an ‘Emergency’ ski trip to the USA…. it has all been a bit rushed, and all booked at the last minute.
Flew in to New York (just as another plane was ditching in the Hudson)… the weather was cold, very cold.
Drove from New York up to Killington (this trip is Killington, Vermont, and Okemo (Ludlow, Vermont)) for three days of skiing. I had forgotten how cold it can get in New England. (Great to be back though.)
Even after a long drive the Jeep was still coated in snow and ice
At Killington we were staying in one of The Mountain Inn (we had a stay and ski package deal), which is conveniently placed near the main slopes (bus or drive to the slopes, little too far to walk with ski gear).
The Mountain Inn is OK. It is a bit dated and worn. But the rooms are comfortable and warm with a great view.

From the Inn we were able to use a free shuttle bus down to some of the other bars and restaurants down the main ‘drag’ in to Killington.
The weather at Killingon was cold (I know I have already said that), but on the plus side the sun was out, the snow was fantastic (they do a much better grooming job at Killington these days), and there were no lift lines (I actually skied on ‘inauguration Tuesday’ and there was no one on the slopes).

Skiing at Killington – no lift lines
Summary: Three days of very cold, but great skiing. The deal we had was good value, and we had some excellent Elan skis. The hotel (inn) was adequate, a bit dated and worn, but suited our needs. After three days of hard skiing my knees were shot and it was time to move on to the cruiser trails of Okemo.
Footnote: One thing that was odd (and very annoying) when we were organising this trip was we wanted to do a ’stay’ from Sunday through to (and including) Friday night. However, no hotel/inn/bed and breakfast was willing to do a Friday night let without a Saturday. Basically they threw away a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of let just so they could get a Saturday…. Very odd.
