Just found a set of photos on Flickr that seem to show a lift rescue in at Mont Garceau in Canada on 11th Feb 2007 after a lift broke down. They make for some interesting viewing…

In an earlier post I gave some links to photos, again on Flickr, that showed a number of lift evacuation drills at various ski resorts. Today I came across a set of photos of a lift evacuation at Mont Garceau in Canada. These photos look like it is for real… and it appears to have happened yesterday (11th Feb 2007).

As can be seen, the resort called the fire-brigade, which then used ladders and a sort of cradle to get the skiers down. From what I can see, the stranded skiers were first tossed blankets, and something else (?), to help them keep warm. The brigade then used a catapult type device to get a line over the lift cable so a cradle could be hoisted for the rescue. In some shots the firemen are using ladders to get to the skiers. I can almost feel how cold the skiers were…

Thanks for blix613 at Flickr for posting the photos. The full set can be seen at Mont Garceau – lift evacuation photos.
