Skiing, Boarding and snow around the world

Another great day – snow conditions still excellent, which is amazing when you consider there has been no snow! Piste bashers doing an excellent job. Weather today has been mixed, some sun, some cloud, and windy on some slopes. Today we have decided to ski the Sellaronda

The Sellaronda: Decided to ski the Sellaronda, which is a big circular ski route that goes around the main mountain and takes in a lot of different ski areas. The whole route can be done in a day. We started at 9:15 am and were back in Corvara at 2:45 pm (this included a coffee and lunch stop – plus we were not skiing very fast).

The route is well marked (green markers anti-clockwise and orange marker clockwise) and good fun (maps: map 1 and [map 2 ](http://www.dolomitesworld.com/images/sellaronda.jpgof the route) showing the route). Skis have to be taken off twice to cross roads.

The total route is:

Clockwise (orange): 43 km, which is made up of 25 km of skiing and 18 km of cable cars, drags and lifts. Total ascent (or decent, which ever way you wish to view it) – 4,160 m.

Anti-clockwise (green): 38 km, which is made up of 22 km of skiing and 16 km of cable cars, drags and lifts. Total ascent (or decent, which ever way you wish to view it) – 3,837 m.

The route is not for beginners as there are a couple of really steep parts, particularly off the cable car at Arabba. The ski runs off the cable car are very exposed, and with no sun, very cold with flat light

Snow conditions were excellent (they really do look after the piste here) and the runs varied. Off the top of the cable car at Arabba the mountains are very quite bleak and treeless. Around Val Gardena there are lots of trees and some really nice ‘cruiser’ trails.

Yet another great day out, rounded off with a few drinks at ‘the round bar’ – well, that is what we called it. The bar is located near the Boe gondola.

Didn’t take too many photos as we wanted to get the route done and didn’t really know how long it would take.

Snow is forecast for tonight.
