The drive from The Lecht to Glenshee is fairly easy. Basically just head south for 33 miles towards Braemar (driving directions).

The drive from the Cairngorms ski area to The Lecht is 44 miles along very pleasant roads (driving directions). Basically follow the A95, onto the A939, and take a right towards Tomintoul and Blairanmarrow.

Aviemore markets itself as the highland ski resort. From a lot of the literature and advertising put out you would think it is close to the Cairngorm ski area, it is not, it is about 10 miles away and there are places to stay that are closer to the Cairngorm ski area (driving directions).

From Thurso I drove to Ullapool along the A836, A838, A894, A837, and A835. Along the way I passed the nuclear plant at driving directions.

To find Dunnet Head take the road from John O’Groats (the A836) and head towards Thurso. At about 9 miles from John O’Groats turn right up a little single track road that leads towards Dunnet Head (driving directions).

Woke up early, had breakfast at the Seaview hotel, John O’Groats, not a bad meal, full Scottish breakfast (sausage was a bit plastic like!) and walked down to the harbour.

Well, this started as a tour of ski areas in Scotland, but as I had visited 40% (i.e. 2 out of 5) ski areas by 4 pm on the first day of a planned three day trip I decided to go and explore….
