Day seven – St Anton, Austria
Last day in St Anton. I spent the morning wandering around town before catching the ski coach back to the airport.
St Anton is a ‘pretty’ town. Very quaint. The main street is closed to cars and there are numerous bars and small shops.

What is interesting in St Anton is the Apres ski scene. Things tended to kick off around 3 pm up the ski slopes in bars like Mooserwirt and the Crazy Kangaroo. Skiers and boarders would then return to their chalets around 8 pm for dinner and then come back out around 9 pm – 10 pm. The ‘Apres ski scene’ then moved around town from bar to bar, with different bars reaching their peak at different times, for example, we often went to Piccadilly (disco out the back and live bands in the front bar) around 10 pm, and then moved on to Bar Cuba (a basement drinking den with a small dance floor) or the Underground (great for live bands in the basement and some interesting music in the upstairs bar). The last bar to ’start-up’ (and the last one to close) was Kandahar. During the day Kandahar was an Indian restaurant, which became a night-club around 1 am, and stayed open to 6 am. Basically, it was possible to ski all day, go to the bars in the evening/night, leave Kandahars at 6 am, return to the hotel for a shower and breakfast, and then back out for the first lift….
Flight back was a disaster. Due to get to Gatwick at 4pm. Finally arrived at 11pm….. Missed the train home…
